Vervain may be used by herbalists with conditions including the nervous system. The active verbenalin in vervain as a parasympathetic action, stopping spasms in smooth muscle. The other key active being verbenin stimulates glandular secretions, fluid retention, gout, liver support, elevates saliva flow, and in small amounts stimulates the sympathitic nervous system but in large doses paralyes these nerves.
May be also utilised with anxiety, migraines & headaches caused by nerves, debility in recovery of illness, jaundice, poor appetite & digestion, depression, melancholia, generalised seizures, gallstones – cholecystitis, cholecystalgia – pain & cramping due to gallstones, convulsions & fits, ulcers of the mouth, and eczema.
